Cyclic Stretching (2023- 24)
In seaweed cultivation, floating on the sea are the seedlings planted by seaweed farmers; whereas below are intricately tied with powers quietly grounding the waters.
Soft tissues perform cyclic stretching; through stretching and relaxing cells could be stretched and grown. As subjects of the global blue economy undergo cell growth and slowly stretch out their tissues, what would the body repulse or embody?
Cyclic Stretching I & II is part of a series of carrageenan sculptures. The material is a seaweed-based ingredient prevalent in food and cosmetic production, as well acts as a gelling agent in my research.
The global carrageenan industry is largely based in Southeast Asia, with Indonesia topping the yield and China as the largest Carrageenan production and trading country.
